The wide flanged base plate, the integral cylindrical boss with a through-bore, the side wall with flat mating faces, and the numerous precision mounting holes and recessed hex counterbores are all compacted simultaneously within the PM tooling. Each of these features — particularly the recessed hex pockets and the multiple through-holes at varying elevations — would require costly multi-step machining operations if produced by any other metalworking method. Complex geometry of this kind, combining a thick vertical boss with a thin, multi-armed base, readily lends itself to PM manufacturing.
